[Ebook PDF] Crisis Intervention: A Practical Guide, 1st Edition
Authors: by Alan A. Cavaiola (Author), Joseph E. Colford (Author)
Crisis Intervention takes into account various environments and populations across the lifespan to provide students with practical guidelines for managing crises. Drawing on over 25 years of relevant experience, authors Alan A. Cavaiola and Joseph E. Colford cover several different types of crises frequently encountered by professionals in medical, school, work, and community settings. Models for effectively managing these crises are presented along with the authors’ own step-by-step approach, the Listen–Assess–Plan–Commit (LAPC) model, giving students the freedom to select a model that best fits their personal style or a given crisis. Future mental health professionals will gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to help their clients manage the crises they will encounter in their day-to-day lives.

I want to thank Moshe Deutsch, one of my graduate students, for his research assistance and for his help in updating the statistics pertinent to my crisis chapters. A special thank you also goes to my wife Jeanne for helping me with the typing and for giving me the space to complete this book in the midst of a challenging and burdensome year in academia. (Joe C) We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Sage Editors, Abbie Rickard and Nathan Davidson for their incredible patience, encouragement, and tenacity in bringing this book to fruition. We are very grateful for all the work that Alissa Nance had done in making certain that all copyright permissions were obtained. It was such a pleasure to work with her. We also wish to thank Janet Ford for her meticulous editing and to Andrew Olson for his help in the final production of this book. We are also grateful to Barry Fetterolf, our literary agent and friend who also worked diligently to bring this and previous works to print. Finally, we’d like to dedicate this book to all those who have endured crisis and trauma in their lives and who have managed to persevere in the face of tragedy and heartbreak. Especially our those closest to us, our family, our friends, our students, and our patients who have shared their stories of hope, strength, and resilience.
